Air pollution in Johor affect health

Health Ministry health monitoring system moving across the country, especially in areas hit by the haze to detect if there is an increase in the number of cases of diseases related symptoms among the general public.

Currently, there are seven loksi API readings recorded unhealthy levels of haze due to symptoms, but not more than 200 so far.

This raises the concern that it could affect the health of people, especially those suffering from respiratory problems. Number of cases of infection in the upper respiratory tract (URTI) increased 21 percent based on total attendance of patients come for treatment.

The public are advised to avoid doing activities outside and wear a mask if necessary out of the house and drink plenty of water.

According to the website of the Department of Environment (DOE), the Air Pollution Index (API) in the district, which was recorded at 11 o'clock this morning was 149 in Pasir Gudang, 124 at Old Larkin, 138 and 157 in Kota Tinggi Muar. API readings for each area at about 5pm are 168, 152, 166 and 172. API readings 101 to 200 is considered unhealthy.
